Nothing beats the flavour of organic, homegrown vegetables. They are a world away from the bland veg you can buy in your local supermarket. These are mass produced, often cultivated on foreign soil and sprayed with noxious chemicals, before being transported thousands of miles and stored in a warehouse for days. By the time they reach the supermarket shelves, they are not exactly fresh.
Growing your own fresh veg, either in your garden or on an allotment plot, is better for your health and your pocket. If you are of a certain age, you will remember the popular 70s show, The Good Life. Tom and Barbara Good extolled the virtues of living the ‘good life’ – and caused havoc along the way. It was comedy gold, but growing vegetables at home has become an increasingly popular activity in recent years. Waiting lists for allotment gardens are long and many people with larger gardens are having a go at growing a few simple vegetables.
You don’t even need a garden or an allotment. It’s easy to grow smaller varieties of vegetables and other edibles such as tomatoes, peppers, and sweet peas in a pot or growbag on your terrace or windowsill.

Happy, Healthy Vegetable Plants
We have been growing vegetables for nearly a hundred years, so we know how to produce healthy, quality plants. For many gardeners, the hardest part of growing vegetables is producing seedlings ready to plant out in the garden or allotment. For that, you need a greenhouse or heated benches. You also need some specialist knowledge and the right soil conditions.
We take care of that stage of the growing process for you. The Carpenter’s Nursery team sow seeds in our greenhouses and nurture them until they become healthy plants, ready to be planted outdoors. We grow a huge range of summer and winter vegetables, so whatever your tastes, whether you want to keep it simple with carrots, onions, and salads, or you fancy trying some more exotic vegetables, you can buy whatever you need from our garden shop.
Whether you are an experienced grower or you are new to the joys of growing vegetables, we can help. We are always happy to offer advice, so if you aren’t sure which variety of carrot or beans to sow, or you have a question about potatoes, just ask one of the Carpenter’s Nursery team!
