We all know homegrown veggies are the best, but who has the time to slave away, digging up the garden and planting seeds? It’s a sad fact that modern life has taken a sharp shift away from the values of yesteryear. Back in our grandparent’s day, most people had a vegetable plot. Those that didn’t bought fresh fruit and vegetables from a local grower. Today, we are far more likely to hit the supermarket and pick up mass produced fruit and veggies grown abroad and shipped to the UK. It’s hardly good for the environment or for freshness.
Here at Carpenter’s Nursery and Farm Shop, we take care of the hard work. Our veggies are cultivated on site, processed, and delivered to our farm shop for you to enjoy.
The Lifecycle of a Cabbage
Our homegrown cabbages don’t have a long and torturous journey. Their life begins as a seedling in the greenhouses, where they are kept under cover to protect them from the late frosts of spring. Once the little seedlings are large enough, they are planted outdoors.
We do things the old-fashioned way, so our cabbages are treated with plenty of loving care to ensure they grow up healthy and tasty. Each one of our cabbages is carefully monitored until it is ripe for harvesting. We use traditional methods to cultivate and harvest our crops, so they are extra tasty and largely free of pesticides. We prefer to use organic fertilisers and nature’s finest manure. Over the years, we have honed our cultivation methods to produce the biggest, tastiest, and healthiest cabbages.
Harvested by Hand
When our cabbages are large enough, they are harvested by hand. We don’t use heavy machinery to harvest our crops. We prefer to select the freshest vegetables by hand, so our customers have the pick of the crop. Once our cabbages have been harvested, they are taken to the farm shop, washed, and put on display for our customers to buy.
Fresh as a Cabbage
When you buy fresh cabbage from the Carpenter’s farm shop, we guarantee it’s as fresh as it possibly could be. The majority of our produce is harvested the same day as it goes on sale, so when you visit our Farm Shop and select one of our cabbages or other home-grown vegetables, we can guarantee it will be fresh and full of flavour. Short of growing it yourself, you won’t find vegetables much better than that!
Need a fresh cabbage for your dinner? Pop over to the Carpenter’s Fam Shop and take your pick. We have plenty to choose from!
We also sell a great selection of other fresh seasonal vegetables and groceries, including milk, bread, eggs, and preserves.
When you get your Carpenter’s Farm Shop cabbage home, we recommend you thinly slice it, boil or steam it gently for about 30 minutes, drain, and then serve freshly seasoned with salt, pepper, and a generous dollop of butter. Yum!
