There is nothing more relaxing, and often entertaining, than sitting in your garden enjoying the sights and sounds around you. For centuries, British gardens have been world-famous, not only for the vegetation, but for the wide array of birds that come to bathe and feed off little insects that want to make their home there. There isn’t a more natural way of keeping insects at bay than birds who come to feed on them, and that’s why you just might want to make your garden a place for birds to visit.

Bird Feeders and Feed

While some birds will want to eat your vegetables and fruits such as pigeons, others have no interest whatsoever on what is growing in your garden. These will readily feast on the feeders you have placed at strategic locations. If you want to enjoy the biggest variety of birds, place those feeders in direct line of vision from where you usually sit to enjoy your garden, but far enough away so that you aren’t likely to frighten them off with the slightest movement.

Bird Baths and Bird Boxes

Birds are never livelier or more playful than when they’ve come to bathe, and so you’ll want a bird bath that is easy to keep filled with fresh, clean water. They will drink copious amounts of water for their small size and think nothing of getting in a dip or two at the very same time. You’ll see, finches, blackbirds and so many types, some of which will be here around the year and others will migrate through with the seasons. Always have fresh water and nesting boxes available if you want to keep them close at hand to enjoy while sitting among all the lovely plants you’ve grown around you.

Food and Supplies for Domestic Animals

It isn’t uncommon for anyone with a passion for gardening to also have a love of small creatures. At Carpenter’s Nursery, we stock some of the best and well known dog and cat food brands like James Wellbeloved, John Burns and Science Plan. These are dog food brands which are natural and extremely healthy for your little four legged friends, so if you are looking for healthy gardening, include your pets as well!

From black sunflower seeds to millet and everything in between, you will want to keep plenty of bird food on hand to keep those feeders full! Not sure which kind of food to put in those feeders, or even what kind of feeder to use throughout your garden? Talk to one of our staff on 01727 853340 or visit our Garden Shop Pets & Wild Birds department to see exactly what brands we carry and to discuss which might be best for you and your small furry or feathered friends.
