At Carpenter’s we know that fruit & vegetables are tastiest and most nutritious when they’re fresh. We believe that the best way to guarantee quality and freshness is by growing and selling our vegetables on site, minimising the impact on the environment. We have been operating under this philosophy now for 92 years, serving generations of happy healthy customers!
Our small team of three staff are responsible for producing all our home grown veggies. The journey starts when Stephen Carpenter sows the seeds in early spring. Not long after germination the seedlings are ‘pricked-out’ into trays or pots by our dedicated food production staff David and Carl (who between them have over 40 years growing experience at Carpenter’s!). They are then left to grow in one of our rearing frames for a period of around 4-6 weeks until they are mature enough to be planted in the field. All of our vegetable plants are hand planted by David and Carl who continue to monitor their progress and tender to them until they are fully grown and ready for harvesting. At Carpenter’s we harvest our crops by hand every morning to ensure that the produce we offer for sale in our farm shop is as fresh and tasty as possible!
